NO. 1048 “미주 첫번째 코칭 모임을 다녀온후” “After attending the first coaching meeting in America”

지난주에 잠시 언급했듯이 지난 주간은 가정교회를 시작한 최영기 목사님과 함께 하는 코칭 모임(Leadership Summit)을 잘 마치고 돌아왔습니다. 여기에 참여한 6개 교회는 가정교회를 시작한지 15년~22년까지 된 교회들이고, 그중 2개 교회는 세대교체가 되어 후임 목회자가 가정교회를 이어가고 있는 중에 있었습니다. 미주에서는 한어권에서 공식적으로 처음 가져보는 코칭이지만, 한국에서는 최영기 목사님이 거주하시기에 가정교회 리더를 중심으로 이 코칭 모임이 활발히 진행되고 있습니다.

    코칭 모임의 핵심은 전적으로 성령님께 의존하는데 있습니다. 각 가정마다 교회를 섬기면서 오는 “문제”를 이야기 하는것이 아니라, “과제”에 집중합니다. 이런 관점이 중요한 것이, 어떤 공동체이던지 문제가 없을 수는 없는데, 문제에 집중하다 보면, 해결책이 나오기도 하겠지만, 근본적인 문제까지 접근하지 못할 수 있기 때문입니다. 그러나 “과제”에 집중하면, 창조적이고 미래 지향적인 내용들이 쏟아져 나오는 것을 경험하였습니다. 이것은 사역을 세워가는데 큰 용기와 힘을 주게 되는것 같습니다.

    그래서 코칭을 받는 목사님(사모님)들은 과제를 한문장으로만 만들고, 왜 이런 과제를 내놓는지 설명을 덧붙입니다. 그후에 모든 참석자가 그 과제에 대한 자신의 경험과 성령의 지혜로 의견을 나눕니다. 너무나 놀라운 것은 참 많은 지혜가 대화속에서 나온다는 것입니다. 이때 견해를 이야기 할때 자신이 하고 싶은 말을 하는것이 아니라, 성령님께서 그 순간 자신을 통로로 사용해 주시기를 기대하는 마음으로 이야기 하는 것입니다. 한 가정에 90분의 시간을 배정하여 나눔을 하고 난후 마지막 5-10분은 인도자가 코칭으로 정리합니다. 최영기 목사님은 80세 고령임에도 불구하고 명확하고 성령의 지혜로 때로는 격려와 따끔한 질책으로 코칭해 주셨습니다.

    어떤 모임이든지 의미가 있다고 느껴지거나, 자신의 역할이 분명하면, 지루할 틈이 없습니다. 이번 모임이 꼭 그랬습니다. 아무래도 휴양지에서 모임을 가지다 보니, 푸른 바다와 맑은 하늘, 그리고 부담 없는 옷차림으로 다니는 사람들의 여유가 있었지만, 그 모든것은 코칭 모임을 더 풍성하도록 하는 부수적인 요소일 뿐이었습니다. 회의실을 하나 빌려 삶을 나누고, 목회의 과제를 나누며 시원한 방향이 제시되는 느낌을 가져다 준 시간을 통해 그곳에 휴양 온 어떤 사람들보다 행복한 사람들 이었습니다.

     코칭 모임은 목사님 들에게만 필요한 것이 아닙니다. 늘푸른교회의 코칭이 필요한 그룹들이 있습니다. 잘 준비되어서 때가 되면 교회를 더 풍성케 하는 성령님의 역사가 코칭을 통해서 활발히 일어나기를 소망해 봅니다. (정목사)

Last week, I was thrilled to participate in the Leadership Summit, a coaching meeting aimed at supporting and empowering house church leaders. Led by Pastor Chai Young-Gi, who brings immense wisdom and dedication to the table, this gathering was nothing short of inspiring.

It’s incredible to see how these six house churches, with a rich history ranging from 15 to 22 years, are thriving and evolving. Two of them are even in the process of passing on their legacy to the next generation, a testament to the enduring spirit of community and faith.

What truly resonated with me during the Summit was the emphasis on embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Instead of dwelling on problems, we focused on actionable tasks, allowing us to tap into our collective creativity and envision a brighter future for our ministries. This shift in perspective filled us with renewed courage and determination.

Throughout the meeting, Pastor Chai’s guidance was invaluable. Despite his age of 80 years, his clarity of vision and deep connection with the Holy Spirit shone through, providing us with both encouragement and gentle correction when needed.

Moreover, the atmosphere of the Summit was nothing short of uplifting. Held in a resort area, surrounded by the beauty of nature, it served as a reminder of the abundance and blessings that await us on this journey. But beyond the scenic backdrop, it was the rich discussions and heartfelt sharing in the conference room that truly enriched our experience.

As we reflect on the impact of coaching meetings, let’s remember that it’s not just pastors who benefit from such gatherings. Every member of the Evergreen Church community has a role to play in our collective growth and flourishing.

I am filled with hope and anticipation for what lies ahead. May the history of the Holy Spirit’s work through coaching continue to unfold, bringing transformation and renewal to our church and beyond. Together, we are unstoppable. (Pastor Jeung)
