NO. 1056 “기도의 능력을 체험했습니다.” “I experienced the power of prayer”

지난주 참석했던 목회자 컨퍼런스는 가정교회의 새로운 이정표가 되는 시간 이었습니다.  왜냐하면 휴스턴서울교회 영어권 교회인 “뉴라이프교회”(NLF)가 주관하였기 때문입니다. 새롭고 신선했습니다. 섬기는 사람들이 대부분 한인2세인 젊은 목자와 목녀, 그리고 간간히 보이는 타민족의 식구들이 하나가 되어 섬기는 모습은 정말 아름 다왔습니다. 찬양을 인도하거나 열심히 섬기는 청년들이 한어권 목자의 자녀들이라는 말이 감동이 되었습니다. 여느 다른 목회자 컨퍼런스와 다른점이 있었다면, 자녀들에게 섬김을 받은 느낌 이었다고나 할까? 물론 다 젊지는 않았습니다. 50대이상도 섬김의 자리에 있었지만 전체적인 분위기가 그랬다는 것입니다.

     저는 한번도 우리 늘푸른교회에 주신 다음세대에 대한 꿈을 놓친적이 없습니다. 그리고 그 중심에는 예수님이 주인 되셔야 함을 늘 잊지 않고 있습니다. 언젠가 우리 교회도 우리 자녀 세대가 다양한 모습으로 미국과 한국에 있는 가정교회를 섬기는 역량이 생기기를 꿈꾸어 봅니다. 그리고 그 꿈은 현실이 되어 반드시 이루어질 것을 믿습니다. “기도하면 이루어집니다”

     바로 이 기도의 능력을 이번에 체험했습니다. 지난주 목회자코너를 통해서 긴급한 기도를 부탁했던 것을 기억하시지요? 이번 목회자컨퍼런스에서 “하나님을 경험하는 삶”강의를 맡았는데, 10년만에 하는 강의라 잘 할수 있도록 기도를 부탁했습니다. 그런데 정말 놀라운 경험을 하였습니다. 8분이 참여했는데, 5번의 90분 강의 동안 한사람도 졸지 않고 모두 진지하게 임하여 주었습니다. 제가 다 신기했습니다. 과목의 특성상 시간이 부족하고 지루할 수 밖에 없는데, 시간도 남았고, 즐겁게 함께 공부하는 시간이었습니다. 이번에 수강한 어떤 목사님 두분은 평소 강의하지 않는 목사님이 강의를 한다고 해서 궁금해서 들어왔다고 합니다. 그리고 말합니다. “원래 강의하는 소질이 없어서 못하는 줄 알았는데, 못하는것이 아니라 안한것이었다. 은둔 고수였다”라는 최고의 칭찬을 들었습니다. 다른분이 말합니다. “이분이 그렇게 말하면 진짜다.” 얼굴을 들 수 없을 정도로 여기저기서 격려해 주니 오랜만에 자신감이 생기기도 했습니다. 그동안 해왔던 인도방법을 바꾸었던 것이 좋은 인상을 주었던 것 같습니다. 그러나 더 중요한 것이 있습니다. 누군가 간절히 기도해 주셨던 것이 확실합니다. 어떻게 알까요? 정목사가 준비한 이상의 결과를 보았기 때문입니다. 정말 놀라운 경험이었습니다.

     기도는 막혀있는 환경을 변화시킵니다. 기도는 깊은 절망에서도 기적을 불러옵니다. 기도는 평안을 가져옵니다. 그리고 기도는 안정을 찾게해 줍니다. 왜냐하면 기도는 하나님 아버지 마음을 움직이는 가장 강력한 방법이기 때문입니다. (정목사)

The pastor conference I attended last week was a landmark moment for the house church ministry. It was hosted by “New Life Fellowship” (NLF), an English-speaking church under Houston Seoul Church. It was fresh and innovative. The sight of mostly second-generation Korean young shepherds and their families, along with occasional non-Korean members, serving together as one was truly beautiful. It was touching to hear that the young people leading worship or serving were the children of Korean-speaking shepherds. If there was something different from other pastor conferences, it was perhaps the sense of being served by the children. Of course, not everyone was young. There were those in their 50s and above serving as well, but the overall atmosphere was like that.

I have always strived to be faithful to the vision for the next generation given to our Evergreen Church. And at the center of it all, I always remember that Jesus must be the Lord. Someday, I dream that our church will also have the capacity to serve house churches in the United States and Korea in various ways through our next generation. And I believe that this dream will become a reality and will surely be fulfilled. “Prayer changes things.”

I experienced the power of this prayer firsthand this time. Do you remember when I asked for urgent prayers through the pastor’s corner last week? I was tasked to lead “Experiencing God Life Study” at this pastor’s conference, and as it was my first time in 10 years, I requested everyone’s prayer. As a result, I had a truly amazing experience. Eight people participated, and during the five 90-minute lectures, not a single person dozed off, and everyone took it seriously. I was amazed. It was a joyful time studying together. Two pastors who attended the course said they came because they were curious about the pastor who usually doesn’t lecture. And they said, “I thought you didn’t teach because you didn’t have the talent to lecture, but you were simply hiding your talents.”   Others also provided many, kind feedback.  These unexpected encouragements helped me regain my confidence. Changing the way I’ve been leading may have left a good impression, but there’s something more important. It’s certain that someone prayed earnestly. How do I know? It’s because I saw results beyond what Pastor Jeung had prepared. It was truly an amazing experience.

Prayer changes blocked environments. Prayer brings miracles even in deep despair. Prayer brings peace. And prayer brings stability. Because prayer is the most powerful way to move the heart of God the Father. (Pastor Jeung)”
